Richard's Fine Woodworking-

This web site shows alot of pictures of a variety of things, it is however only a fraction of the things I have made in the last 20+ years. Although I do all sorts of woodworking I always try to do the best job possible and use the proper materials. I donot make anything out of MDF or particle board in fact I make most furniture out of only solid wood. I like to use out of the ordinary woods, they cost a bit more but most of the expense is usually labor so you may as well use delux material.

When making antique reproduction furniture I do whatever possible to make sure that the reproduction is a line copy of the original object using the same primary and secondary materials. There is a big difference between what I make and what a cnc machine or router can make. All my carving, fluting and reeding, and also alot of the moldings (especially the scrolled crowns) are done by hand. All reproductions are sanded too be smooth as possible bringing out the grain and leaving a mirror surface on the wood. There is no plywood in these pieces only solid wood. Even drawers and drawer bottom are made from solid wood usually the primary wood, its so nice to see the same wood inside as out. All the hardware used is quality cast preproction of hardware found on the originals. These are faithful preproductions of the tresures of the past.

I do alot of things that I donot have pictures of, like framing, forming and custom handrails. You can see a nice mahogany handrail at Taylors Crossing Pub (formerly the Avolon), as well as stair treads, fireplace and alot of other cabinets and millwork like the reception stand in resturant. When I make handrails I laminate pieces together I donot like to use bought parts that have details that dont line up held together by bolts that often move. I often put cocrete rebar epoxied into joints for super strenth you can see rebar under the curve at the bottom of the stairs at the pub. No drunk is going to be able too break those curves. I can pretty much do any custom woodworking job and although most of the things pictured here are quite expensive I do all levels of work that is reasonable,no MDF.
